Trail Reports

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow ……

Although there has been a minimal amount of snow the snowmobile season is officially open in New York State. Don’t be distressed though as it wasn’t until mid-January of last year that we had enough cover to open the trails providing us with ample base for excellent riding conditions most of the season.
We’d like to take the time to acknowledge and thank our Groomer Operators whom volunteered over 450 hours of their time last season to maintain our trails smoothing and pulling snow to provide a well groomed trail system of over 32 miles from Schuylerville, through Bacon Hill, Northumberland, Gansevoort, Moreau, Wilton, and up the mountain through Greenfield Center to Corinth. As always when you come upon one of our groomers out on the trail doing their job, pull to the right and allow ample room for them to pass by. They have the right of way.
Listed below by hours groomed in descending order with the top four groomers hours listed are:
• Brian Wrisley – 114 hours
• Bill Gavin – 96 hours
• Jeff Trainor – 64 hours
• Wes Garnsey – 59 hours
• Gary Matthews
• Kevin Wells
• Dan Shipski
• Steve Shill
• Ken Scribner
• Craig Lafave
• Russ Mantz
• Rich Slater
• Zack Mantz
• Jim Warren

A groomer safety training course was offered last April in which fourteen volunteers offered several hours of their time to be properly trained to operate club groomers. Much thanks to all that attended and expressed an interest in helping this upcoming season. We look forward to a season which will provide all an opportunity to ride LMGSC’s Club trails and as always please ride safely and respectfully.

2011/2012 Trail Updates

Current Trail Conditions

Feb. 28 – TRAILS are CLOSED – even though there is snow on the ground there is alot of groundwater on the fields and many mud spots.  We have been asked by several landowners to close our trail system as the traffic is tearing up their fields – please heed our landowners request and respect our closure.  Remember without our landowners permission – there would be no trail system - Thank you!

Feb. 23 – Just when we thought the season might be over Mother Nature has been most kind to us leaving us with plenty of snow to ride on.  It’s heavy and packs nicely but there isn’t much base left from previous storms so ride safely while it lasts!

We’ve been busy working on our trails…

This summer the trail was straightened and widened between Selfridge Road and Fortsville Road. Two bridges were replaced by culverts in an effort to eliminate some of the yearly bridge maintenance. Volunteers have been busy signing and cutting back brush on the trails getting them ready for the upcoming snow season.
